John shipp

John Wesley Shipp (born January 22, 1955) is an American actor known for his various television roles. He played the lead Barry Allen on CBS's superhero series The Flash from 1990 to 1991, and Mitch Leery, the title character's father, on the drama series Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2001. Shipp has also played several roles in daytime soap operas including Kelly Nelson on Guiding Light from 1980 to 1984, and Douglas Cummings on As the World Turns from 1985 to 1986 (which earned him his first Daytime Emmy Award). He portrays Barry Allen's father, Henry Allen, Jay Garrick/Flash and Earth-90 Barry Allen/Flash on the current The Flash series on The CW network.

John Wesley Shipp was born on January 22, 1955 in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. He is an actor and director, known for The Flash (2014), Dawson's Creek (1998) and NYPD Blue (1993).

Lived in New York City to study acting following college and earned his first daytime claim to fame playing Dr. Kelly Nelson on Guiding Light (1952) in 1980.

Won two consecutive daytime Emmy awards for his soap work -- the first for As the World Turns (1956) and the second for Santa Barbara (1984).

He played Barry Allen / The Flash in The Flash (1990) and his father Henry Allen in The Flash (2014).

His father was the Minister at Ridgecrest Baptist Church when he was attending High School in Wake Forest, NC. One night while some friends of his were visiting, gunshots were fired through the brick walls of his house. It is assumed that it was the KKK who fired the shots, because a few of those friends were African American. If you can find the old T.V. guide from around that time, John gave an interview where he talked about the incident.

Appeared on Broadway in two dramas, making his debut as Harvey Feirstein's love interest in "Safe Sex". Shipp later appeared in a production of Brian Friel's award-winning "Dancing at Lughnasa".

Shipp appeared was on the series Sisters (1991) (1994-95) as Lucky Williams.

In 2015, Shipp won the Audio Verse Award as Best Actor with a Leading Role in an Original, Short-Form, Serial Production for the scripted podcast Western "Powder Burns" (Apple Podcasts).

Mr. Shipp won a 2017 Voice Arts Award for his performance on the scripted podcast Western "Powder Burns" (Apple Podcasts). He is a three-time nominee for the award. The show is the creation of writer/producer David A. Gregory. The two played father and son on ABC's "One Life to Live".

Ship and co-star Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen on The Flash (2014), were both born in Norfolk, Virginia.
